What is Life Coaching?

Coaching is about self-empowerment through self-awareness, self-management and increased self-efficacy in a collaborative process with client and coach as equals and explicitly drawn on innate strengths and resources.

The aim is usually to make change happen, but this can be part of a process that first starts with working out at how the ‘there and then’ may be impacting on the ‘here and now’ including what patterns, beliefs or relationship dynamics may be holding you from reaching your full potential.

 

The core purpose of coaching is to increase self-awareness and mind clarity, to make choices explicit, and implement tailored tools and techniques to close the gap between potential and achieved goal.

What is unique about my Coaching Approach?

The first thing that comes to mind is that I take the time to truly connect with my clients and learn about my clients as individuals before the 'coaching work' starts.

I work with my client's conscious experience, while helping him or her understand that sometimes their self-limiting behaviour is being driven by thoughts, feelings and beliefs of which they are unaware and where my professional insight as a psychotherapist comes into play. 

 

I also focus a great deal on my client's real interactions within the various social systems in which he or she is embedded. The more I understand the social and practical realities of their life, the better able I am to help him or her in therapy and in coaching.

As a registered Therapist my priority is my coaching clients' well-being and needs and helping them navigate changes and challenges whilst maintaining a strong and healthy sense of self.

While therapy is reparative in nature, coaching has a personal development focus, structure and time frame.

My coaching clients must be mentally healthy to engage and benefit from coaching. Its focus is not on understanding the past or overcoming traumatic events and mental illness (for which psychotherapy or counselling might be beneficial).
